size matters

I have a Sony PR-505 ebook reader. My friend has both the standard Kindle and the newer Kindle DX (pictured).
I love the size, weight and battery life of the Sony for travelling and general portability. I use it on the train a lot – where I think the large size of the Kindle DX would be a liability. I really like the DX for reading things like academic journals and similar articles – the Sony is a little small, and while it admirably copes with resizing and reformatting the pdfs, the large screen would be nice.

I could definitely see myself owning a large and a small reader. Music to the manufacturers ears. Lets hope they keep a sensible option for people like me, who would have multiple readers and would want to be able to read legally purchased content on all of them.
It would be really nice if this portability extended across manufacturers – but I fear that will never happen. So, even though both devices above have the same book on them (Origin of Species by Darwin), that’s probably the closest they’ll ever operate.
