karwig wines trip report

This morning the Clayton family wine hunters descended on Karwig Wines in Carrigaline.
I’ve been meaning to get there for ages so I was really looking forward to it. You take the Crosshaven road out of Carrigaline, watch for the sign after the GAA pitch and head right, past an industrial estate till you see another sign – follow the road past the houses, carry on wondering if you’ve gone in entirely the wrong direction and you’ll arrive at the shop and warehouse.

The shop itself is relatively small, but has an impressive range laid out by country. As usual we made a circuit or two to get an idea of everything in the shop before starting into the serious business of choosing something to take home.
We were only arriving at Spain having been impressed by Germany and Austria when Joe, the eponymous owner of Karwig wines popped out to talk to us. Joe is a very friendly gent who made us feel very welcome. Overall the atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming. Even the neighbours labrador welcomes shoppers with enthusiasm!

I just picked up a couple of sample bottles, two nice looking french reds and a trademark Eiswein.

I’ll report back on how the wines tasted!

We’ll get the Tokaji next time Kevin – we thought 4 bottles of Eiswein (uncle got 3) was enough for our first trip :)

Ye Claytons have a problem. An intervention might be needed!

  4. Thanks for coming down Brian and might I compliment you on your choices. Hope you enjoy them.
