There was some talk about the Western Star* on boards.ie lately. They knocked the place to make a financial services centre, but that went about as well as you’d expect.
Shame too, with UCC expanding the campus to create the “greater campus”. Thousand of thirsty students walking home past the door every day. Sums up the quality of the decisions made by the financial sector over the last few years for me.
* used to be a very popular pub on Western Road in Cork. When I were a lad it was jammed every night. How they weren’t making enough money I’ll never know.
