I got a fish pedicure at Feet Dreams in Cork City!

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

I went for a fish pedicure at Feet Dreams this morning.
When you go in you’ll meet Nick or Breda, organise some small paperwork (confirming that you
haven’t had fake tan recently and so on) and they they’ll show you to your tank.
There’s about 8 tanks, each with a couch beside them. You sit at the tank, take off your shoes and then wash your feet in a standard foot spa. Meanwhile the cover comes off the tank and the fish start to get excited! After a quick wash of your feet you can put them into the tank. The second your feet are in the fish rush over and start nibbling away at your feet. This is a little ticklish, but in a nice way. The fish are very enthusiastic and cover your entire foot. All you have to do is sit there and relax – the fish do all the work.

After your 15 minutes or so are up, you take your feet out and dry them, and off you go on your way, with lovely smooth feet!
I’m not one for these sorts of treatments, but it’s a very refreshing feeling.

Thanks to Nick and Breda for letting me record the session.

buying local this Christmas

Monday, December 13th, 2010

I had planned to write this blog post a few days ago, but Billy Lyons beat me to the punch with his blog post on buying Irish. I’m changing it slightly to “buying local”.
I’ve done most of my Christmas shopping, and about half of it is coming from local suppliers, and local producers where possible.
I’ve bought my presents from local suppliers (that I can’t name without spoiling surprises!)

The Christmas wine is coming from Curious Wines, I’ve bought a lovely Christmas Pudding from Fenn’s Quay restaurant. I bought some last year too and they were fantastic. I’ve sent one to my aunt and am shipping another to Switzerland!

We’ll be placing an order with Local Markets, a brilliant new co-operative in Cork, delivering produce from local suppliers and producers. It’s like a farmers market in your kitchen!

It’s something I intend to do a lot more of, buying local where possible. There’s such good quality produce and brilliant customer service available in Cork that I really want to support it.

murphys local advertising campaign

Monday, February 8th, 2010

I’m a big fan of this sort of localised advertising.

Murphys Ad - The Lough

For non-Corkonians, the Lough and the Shaky bridge are local landmarks. They wouldn’t mean much outside Cork, but that’s the fun of the campaign.

frosty crow

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I’ve never seen a crow with frost on his back like this before.

Frosty the crow, man.

The audio is a little rough, but enjoy!

frog in the garden

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

I know it’s wet but this is a little over the top!

My father found this little guy in the garden – he had to move him before the dog had a snack.
