Luxury liner The World visited Cobh today.
The unusual thing about this liner is you can buy a residence on board and live on the ship!

the new bazaar at Lapps Quay kicked off today.

new market at lapps quay in Cork

it started off small, but it’s a great location for a market. you have the food and coffee stalls right beside it, as well as the river and the Boardwalk bar and Clarion behind it. there was a great atmosphere this afternoon.

It’s great to see more life coming to Cork city – well done to all the organisers and I hope it grows from here!

clippers arrive in Cork City

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I went out on my friends yacht today to join the clippers on their journey up river from outside Cork Harbour.

We met the clippers a couple of miles off Roches Point and followed them all the way upriver.

The first landmark – Roches Point lighthouse. Clippers Cork and Jamaica passing Roches point:

Some milling around outside Sipke Island followed as the clippers were too early to head upriver.

saerch and rescue demonstration in Cobh

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

I went down to Cobh yesterday to see a major search and rescue demonstration. The Naval Service, Air Corps, Coastgard, RNLI, Gardai, Fire Brigade, MART, Port of Cork, lots of volunteers and more put on a fantastic show. They demonstrated some of the many possible ways people can get into trouble on the water (and even on land) – everything from kyaking and jetskiers ending up in the water, to fishing vessels going on fire. The Coastguard helicopters and the Air Corps Casa did several fly bys, with the Casa dropping a life raft on one pass. I took lots of photographs and videos. Enjoy!

spwc street performance world champs in cork city this weekend

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

This weekend saw the Street Performance World Championship in Cork City.
I popped along for a short while on the Sunday. It’s a free event and there are a number of stages set up, with
food stalls and various other entertainments on offer. It was fantastic – lots to see and do, and all free!
Kudos to all involved in it – I’m looking forward to next year already.
