I noticed this on the way home tonight.

ring around the moon

apparently it’s caused by ice clouds in the upper atmosphere. all I know is it’s cold.

How I took this shot:
zoom, enhance!

I took my camera, a Canon 50D and put it on my tripod. I set the camera to ISO200, 1/250 seconds, and f/8 aperture. I locked the tripod and focused on the moon. I use a 10 second timer so that the camera would be as steady as possible when the shot was taken. That’s all there is to it, bar cropping in photoshop.

I almost missed this one. ran out with the tripod, guessed at the camera settings, there was no memory card in the camera, I ran back in to get one and tripped over the tripod ….
