I saw a train on the new Glounthaune/Midleton line today. This is a training run, the service opens the 30th.

This train is waiting on the Glounthaune/Midleton line for clearance to join the Cobh/Cork line at Glounthaune.
You can see the Cobh/Cork train in the background, on the other line.

With the way clear, it moves off.

I spoke to the conductor on the Cobh/Cork train this morning.
Some things he said:

  • Midleton station will be unmanned (so ticket machines there and in Carrig)
  • the drivers for the new “road” haven’t been appointed yet
  • there’s no firm date for the opening of the line proper

hurry up Irish Rail!

finally, this is an up to date look at the new overbridge on the lower glanmire road. I wonder must it be finished before they can open the new line?
