Monday, July 27th, 2009I saw a train on the new Glounthaune/Midleton line today. This is a training run, the service opens the 30th.
This train is waiting on the Glounthaune/Midleton line for clearance to join the Cobh/Cork line at Glounthaune.
You can see the Cobh/Cork train in the background, on the other line.

The Cork/Cobh train passes in the background.
With the way clear, it moves off.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009I spoke to the conductor on the Cobh/Cork train this morning.
Some things he said:
- Midleton station will be unmanned (so ticket machines there and in Carrig)
- the drivers for the new “road” haven’t been appointed yet
- there’s no firm date for the opening of the line proper
hurry up Irish Rail!
finally, this is an up to date look at the new overbridge on the lower glanmire road. I wonder must it be finished before they can open the new line?

new train videos
Friday, May 1st, 2009Two new videos this morning showing updates on the Glounthaune/Midleton Cork/Cobh line.
The first shows the view on the inside of the line, where the new overbridge is going.
You can see the houses that will be served by this new crossing.
The second video shows the old manual level crossing that’s being replaced by the bridge.
